New Motivation

Well everyone, I have some new motivation for weight loss and exercise.  My fiancee (Ashley) is currently 7 months pregnant, and I would like to be able to keep up with my son when he gets here.  This means that I need to be healthy and in good physical shape.

My biggest issue is that I never fit cardio into my schedule.  I don't own a treadmill and I don't have a gym membership.  I don't enjoy running where I will see other people, but I get bored when I run alone.  We just bought our first home in January and we live across the street from some soccer fields that don't get used much.  I have been telling myself that I will start running there once the snow is gone.  Well the snow has been gone for a few days and still no running.

Last night, I got a dog, he is a German Shepard/Bloodhound mix named George.  After getting everything set up at the house for him, I strapped on my running shoes and grabbed a leash.  We walked over to the fields and then ran all the way around them and back home.  It was a small start, but at least I went running.  After coming back I felt amazing, I ate some cottage cheese and pistachios and then went to bed.

I may not get in perfect shape before Tobias Edward is born, but at least I will have a jump start on the process.  Please sound off in the comments if you have any suggestions that would help.

  1. Do you own an MP3 player? OR know anyone nearby you that might want a running partner, both help me when I go running. I can't do it in silence, but I much prefer to have someone to run with, gives me that feeling of competition and drives me on!

But if you haven't got anyone to run with, I would seriously look to pick up a cheap MP3 player, it doesn't have to have a large memory (unless you plan on running for week solid!), and then just get sort of 30-50 of your favourite songs, high tempo tend to work better and run to the music.

  2. I do own an MP3 player (Well I use my cell phone) and I picked up a pair of bluetooth head phones. I'm going to start taking that along with me when I run.

  3. You know the hardest part is willing yourself to start running, but once you start and run about 10 minutes it get's kind of fun and besides it's very good for your health. I used to hate running but now i do it willingly because I know that I need it and it's very good for me.

  4. I've noticed the same thing. If I just think about how good the runner's high is going to feel afterwards it helps a lot to get me going.

  5. I have found that my diet has improved alot since I started taking some over the counter suppliments. St Johns Wort, Fish oil, and a multivitimin. It seems to really help lower the appitite.
